How Does Tutoring Fit In?

If your child needs extra help with their school work and you are too busy or lack the knowledge to give them math homework help and other help, you may want to hire a tutor. The only problem with a tutor is finding a convenient time for tutoring sessions. Children are also very busy – your child has got school, after school activities such as swimming, sport activities, music lessons, homework etc.- How can tutoring fit into this schedule? Not only are children busy, tutors are also busy and often have set working times. They might also only work from their own home and this will mean you finding time to transport your child to their sessions. It is hard to find a time that suits everyone.

What should you do?
You do not want to completely disrupt your child’s life and prevent them from doing sports and activities that they enjoy. Academic studies are not the only thing that matter. Children need time to exercise or to relax and enjoy themselves. So, how do you find a middle-ground? The answer is to use an online tutoring service. Online tutoring is perfect for busy families. For example, Excel Students tutors work between 1pm and 10pm CST and are also willing to accommodate students who cannot do these hours. Your child is personally tutored via the internet in a virtual classroom in their own home – no need to take  them to the other side of town! Excel Students offers your child math homework help, science and biology homework help.  They are a full tutoring service with a Personalized Individual Learning Plan and they create a tutoring plan to suit your child. Online tutoring is definitely worth investigating if your child needs help with their schoolwork.

Why Are So Many US Students Failing In Their Class

Uncategorized  Tagged , , , , , , No Comments »

Many children are failing at school and not getting the grades they could achieve or that they deserve to achieve. Are they to blame or is the system letting them down? John Holt in his book “How Children Fail” says that children fail “because they are afraid, bored and confused.”

Fear
Fear and stress do not promote learning. Children cannot learn in a stressful environment where failure of any kind is disapproved of. Children become afraid to ask questions and embarrassed to ask for help when they do not understand. They are scared to try new things and worry constantly about test results. They are afraid to do things wrong. Children cannot learn when they are afraid and stressed.

Boredom
Education is designed for the masses and not for the individual. Children who are verbal learners do well with traditional education because teachers tend to teach in a verbal way and expect students to take notes. Children with different styles of learning will get bored and switch off their brain. The style of teaching is not relevant to them and they do not learn. Discovery and exploration do not seem to be part of the modern education system.

Confusion
Children are taught concepts at home and in school by discovery and exploration. When they are little they learn by using construction toys and puzzles. They is why they are confused when they’re faced with an education system which does not educate in this way. Parents tell their children to ask if they do not understand a concept and yet teachers and other students embarrass them if they do this. A confused mind does not learn.

No wonder parents are taking education into their own hands. Online tutoring can help children who are being failed by their schools and need help with math homework help.

Different Methods of Learning

If you want to be able to give your child math homework help or biology homework help then you first need to know what kind of learner your child is.

Visual Learner
A visual learner learns things through pictures and is good at understanding maps, charts and diagrams. They study by drawing symbols to remember things. This child needs to be shown something rather than be told.
Study tips:-
1. Use Math games and memory games
2. Use pictures and diagrams to explain concepts
3. Use different colored pens to highlight work
4. Teach mind-mapping techniques
5. Buy math DVDs/videos for math homework help

Kinesthetic Learner
A kinesthetic learner likes to touch things and do things for themselves, to manipulate things, to be shown rather than be told.
Study tips:-
1. Hands-on activities like experiments and acting out things
2. Using construction toys
3. Let them doodle and fiddle with things as they study, they need to keep moving!
4. This learner needs regular breaks to move around.

Auditory/Aural Learner
This learner has a great memory and can remember things they have heard or read a long time ago. They’re great with spelling and times tables and they think in words.
Study tips:-
1. Record lessons so that they can listen to them again
2. Buy audio books on CD/tape
3. Encourage them to record (audio) concepts rather than taking notes

Logical Learner
A logical learner enjoys games, puzzles and experiments and is very good at mental arithmetic and problem solving.  They’re always questioning.
Study tips:-
1. Do experiments together
2. Use puzzles and problems
3. Use computer games and puzzles

Verbal Learner
This learner learns in words and is happy with something being described to them. These learners do well with traditional education.
Study tips:-
1. Buy them plenty of pen and paper – they study by taking notes
2. Let them write in book margins
