Tips for teaching your child responsibility:-
1.Be a good role model – Be organized, be on time for appointments,
keep promises and be responsible with money.
2.Resist the temptation to bail out your children all the time.
If your child leaves their homework at home don’t take it into
school. Let them deal with and learn from the consequences of
their actions. Saying “I told you so” is not helpful but explaining
that all actions have consequences is good education.
3.Give children chores around the house from an early age.
A pre-schooler can tidy their toys and a seven year old
can set the table. Give them tasks that are appropriate for their
age and expect them to be done. Teach your children that each
member of the family has responsibilities.
4.Teach your children how to organize themselves. Help them plan
their study and homework. Show them that if they can organize
themselves then you are willing to give math homework help and
biology homework help etc.
5.Praise your child when they show responsibility.
6.Give your child an allowance from an early age and teach them
about saving and giving to charity. Open a bank account with them
and teach them about interest. Older children can keep an account
book. Do not bail out children who have spent all their money on
a toy and then see something they really want – point out that they
need to save up.
7.Expect responsibility. Children will see that you trust them and will
rise to the challenge. Point out the consequences when tasks are not
done. For example, when your child cannot find something precious
because their room is untidy.
Responsibility is a virtue or skill that your child will need in the future at college and in the working world. A poorly organized irresponsible person does not get far in this world
